Landfill License Surrender case study

The owner of an inert landfill site in Lancashire wanted to redevelop the site and build commercial units.

The value of the land was affected by the presence of a waste management license although the site had not been operational for several years.

Through negotiations with the regulators we were able to develop a 2 year programme of groundwater and gas monitoring as part of an environmental risk assessment to demonstrate that the land had no potential to impact on human health or the environment.

This enabled the surrender of the license and the development of the site.
