Waste Management Licencing

Not all waste activities require a Waste Management Licence (WML). You may be able to apply for a WML exemption which is a far cheaper option. Contact us to see if you operation fits an exemption. However if you do need a WML, please read on.

A New Licence

With the need for more recycling centres / waste transfer stations it is important to obtain a WML that allows the site to be flexible. A working plan is written as a sites operational document. It details the sites environmental protection measures, risk assessments and gives the sites working procedures. The working plan sent for approval to the ea for assessment. So far we have a 100% record of obtaining wml licences for our clients. In order to obtain a wml you need a valid planning permission. Our working plan contain procedures and documents that will greatly assist you when its time to get you CoTC.

Modification

Those who already have a wml may wish to upgrade their tonnages for storages or add to the types of waste they are permitted to store. We can work through the eas strict guidance and apply for a wml modification on your behalf.

Transfer

If you have just bought out another company or wish to change the name of the licence holder into then you need to transfer the wml into a name of your choice. We can carry out all the necessary paperwork on your behalf.

Surrender

For a waste transfer station there may come a time when the land is more valuable than the business. This is when it is time to get rid of (surrender) your licence. It is a complex application involving risk assessments and may involve some ground testing.

For an old landfill, a wml surrender involves a complex ground water environmental risk assessment. This is carried out over a minimum of 2 years with groundwater testing every quarter. Boreholes are drilled into the site to obtain the groundwater. See here for a surrender case study.

In both cases surrendering a wml will stop your yearly fees to the ea. If you don’t surrender your wml you will have to continue paying the licence fees until you do surrender it!
